GNET Workshop: Elections and Extremism: Trends, Consequences and Mitigating Measures

The Global Network on Extremism and Technology (GNET), with support from the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT), invites you to attend our latest workshop, Elections and Extremism: Trends, Consequences and Mitigating Measures. The workshop will cover the upcoming US presidential election, as well as the election landscape in Nigeria and Africa at large vis a vis the extremist threat landscape.

This webinar will take the form of presentations by the panellists followed by an interactive roundtable discussion between presenters and attendees – participation is encouraged!

Featured Panellists:

Dr John Sunday Ojo is a research fellow at NATO Veteran Initiative Research Institute based in Washington DC, United States. He also holds a research fellow position at the Institute for Research and Policy Integration in Africa (IRPIA) housed at Northern Illinois University in the United States. A wide range of issues are at the core of his expertise, including armed conflict, environmental governance, and international security. Dr. Ojo’s works have appeared in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Civil Wars, Democracy and Security, RUSI Journal, African Security, International Journal of Public Administration, African Security Review, Journal of Applied Security Research, African Conflict and Peacebuilding Review, and Conflict Resolution Quarterly, among others.

Alex Newhouse is a computational social scientist currently pursuing a PhD in Political Science at the University of Colorado Boulder. He specializes in the study of political violence, extremism, and fascism, and his work focuses on the evolution of online far-right movements throughout the world. He previously worked as a consultant for the House of Representatives’ January 6th Investigative Committee, and as a researcher and director for the Middlebury Center on Terrorism, Extremism, and Counterterrorism.
