On 30 September, The Global Network on Extremism and Technology (GNET) held its webinar: At the Nexus of Crime and Terror: Exploring Emerging Challenges for Tech Platforms in Latin America.
In light of the recent Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO) designation of Latin American cartels, this webinar featured three presentations examining the crime-terror nexus in Latin America and its implications for tech companies.

- Designation-based enforcement of organised crime actors is not enough to ensure effective online monitoring of harmful content.
Platform moderation of criminal and terrorist networks can be enhanced through introducing behavioural, linguistic and cultural markers. - Social media and gaming environments open up pathways for online engagement and recruitment, putting children and youth at increased risk of being exposed to cartel and extremist content.
