GNET Webinar - Beyond the Channel: Mapping Individual Risk and Collective Dynamics in Far-Right Radicalisation on Telegram
The Global Network on Extremism and Technology (GNET), in collaboration with the RadiGaMe Project, invites you to attend our webinar:
This webinar will feature two presentations examining far-right radicalisation processes and violent extremism on Telegram, with a focus on group dynamics and warning behaviours as analytical frameworks. Specifically, the webinar will highlight the following topics:
- Group dynamics in far-right Telegram communities: examining how patterns of participation, coordination, and norm-setting evolve over time and contribute to the internal functioning and stability of extremist online spaces beyond individual actors and broadcast channels.
- Warning behaviours and violent radicalisation online: assessing how violent content shared in right-wing accelerationist Telegram groups can be interpreted as potential indicators of pathways toward violence, based on preliminary empirical findings from text- and image-based content analysis.
- Conceptual, technical, and regulatory challenges: exploring the difficulties of defining, measuring, and interpreting extremist behaviour on encrypted and semi-encrypted platforms, including issues of data accessibility, platform volatility, and law enforcement.
The presentations, followed by a Q&A, will highlight key considerations for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers seeking to better understand, monitor, and respond to far-right radicalisation processes and violent extremist activity in dynamic online group environments.
