GNET, a special project of the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation (ICSR), is now accepting proposals for our Year 4 Call for Papers. GNET invites proposals for projects that investigate extremist and terrorist use of technologies. Reports should be c.6000 words in length and should offer both actionable findings and practical solutions to the tech industry.
Proposals must be submitted by 17 May 2023 by completing this form and emailing your proposal as a PDF attachment to [email protected]. Proposals submitted after this deadline will not be considered.
This year, the priority areas for GNET reports include (but are not limited to):
- The nexus of online misogyny and extremism
- Extremist tactics during elections
- Virtual reality
- Contemporary antisemitism online
- 3D printed weapons and other emerging weapons technologies
- Resurgence of extremist websites
- Extremist appeals to children and adolescents
- Exploitation of file sharing platforms
When constructing your proposal, please note that GNET discourages applications that focus on a:
- single platform;
- a single language;
- or single event.

Budget and Timelines
GNET contributors are reimbursed £6,000 per research report. GNET discourages applications with more than three (3) primary investigators. This funding will be released after the publication of the report and contributor participation in a launch event.
GNET reports are published between September and July. You will need to provide a timeline in your proposal.

Applicants must submit details of their project in this form and email their proposal as a PDF attachment to [email protected]. Proposals should be no more than three (3) pages that outline your proposed research topic. This proposal should include an overview of the research question, methodology (including an outline of any ethics requirements), timeline and budget, and an overview of the relevance of this project to tech companies.
